// TONY REES
2022 will be my 40th consecutive race season, this year I am competing in the BMCR (British Masters Cycle Racing) National Championships in the over 65 age
category. I was formerly a multi-sport athlete having competed in over 350 duathlons and triathlons including 7 x Ironman finishes.
My hardest day ever was definitely Ironman Lanzarote in 2009, it’s a tough place to race that’s for sure. I am a sports sociologist and was the first academic to
research the effects of new technology combined with social media engagement (Strava/FB/GPS) on the social world of racing cyclists.
I write a blog called theraceforthecafe which takes its name from the title of my PhD thesis. I ride everyday, gravel or road and during the course of the
pandemic I completed a 730 daily ride streak, that’s a lot of cups of coffee !
